Target Information
SOX10 belongs to the SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) family of transcription factors that regulate embryonic development and cell fate determination. It functions as a transcriptional activator through complex formation with other proteins and acts as a nucleocytoplasmic shuttle protein. SOX10 plays a crucial role in neural crest and peripheral nervous system development. Mutations in this gene are associated with Waardenburg-Shah and Waardenburg-Hirschsprung diseases.
