Target Information
PDZK1 is a scaffold protein that connects plasma membrane proteins and regulatory components, regulating their surface expression in epithelial cell apical domains. It may coordinate various regulatory processes for ion transport and second messenger cascades. In complex with SLC9A3R1, it clusters functionally dependent proteins and modulates their trafficking and activity. PDZK1 may also play a role in multidrug resistance via interaction with ABCC2 and PDZK1IP1 and can potentiate CFTR chloride channel activity. It connects SCARB1 with intracellular cholesterol transport mechanisms and may regulate Na(+)-dependent phosphate cotransport in renal tubular function.
