• IHC (PFA fixed):
  Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  For formalin-fixed tissues, heat sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

The enzyme encoded by this gene catalyzes the first two steps, and at least one subsequent step, in the conversion of tyrosine to melanin.
It has both tyrosine hydroxylase and dopa oxidase catalytic activities and requires copper for function.
Mutations in this gene cause oculocutaneous albinism, while nonpathologic polymorphisms contribute to skin pigmentation variation.
A pseudogene similar to the 3′ half of this gene exists in the human genome.
