Alpha Tubulin은 α 및 β tubulin 서브유닛으로 구성된 헤테로이합체의 일부로, 미세소관(microtubule)의 기본 구성 단위입니다. 미세소관은 대부분의 진핵세포에서 구조적 지지 및 세포 내 수송 경로 역할을 하며, 유사분열에도 중요한 기능을 수행합니다. α 및 β tubulin은 미세소관의 주요 구성 요소이며, γ tubulin은 미세소관 조립의 핵형성에 관여합니다. 여러 α 및 β tubulin 유전자는 종 간에 높은 보존성을 가지며, α tubulin 유전자는 mouse 및 rat Tuba1 유전자와 매우 유사합니다. Northern blotting 연구에 따르면 이 유전자는 형태학적으로 분화된 신경 세포에서 주로 발현됩니다.
