Target Information
The three KINDLINs are a novel family of focal adhesion proteins that localize to integrin adhesion sites. These proteins contain a centrally located FERM domain interrupted by a pleckstrin homology (PH) domain.
KINDLIN1 and KINDLIN2 play essential roles in integrin-mediated adhesion and spreading. In contrast, KINDLIN3 expression is restricted to hematopoietic cells, being abundant in megakaryocytes and platelets.
Transcriptional misregulation of KINDLINs has been reported in various cancers. Studies indicate that KINDLIN3 is crucial for platelet integrin activation and integrin outside-in signaling, suggesting it may serve as a therapeutic target for modulating integrin activation in platelets and leukocytes.
