Target Information

NFKB1 or NFKB2 binds to REL, RELA, or RELB to form the NFKB complex. This complex is inhibited by I-kappa-B proteins (NFKBIA or NFKBIB), which trap NF-kappa-B in the cytoplasm. Phosphorylation of serine residues on I-kappa-B by kinases (IKBKA or IKBKB) triggers ubiquitination and degradation, allowing NF-kappa-B activation. Activated NF-kappa-B translocates into the nucleus and binds DNA at kappa-B-binding motifs such as 5'-GGGRNNYYCC-3' or 5'-HGGARNYYCC-3'. Activation of certain genes may require interaction with transcription factors such as STAT, AP1, and NFAT.
