Target Information
The RGS18 gene encodes a member of the regulator of G-protein signaling family. The protein contains a conserved 120-amino-acid RGS domain and attenuates G-protein signaling by acting as a GTPase activating protein (GAP). It accelerates the conversion of GTP to GDP in G alpha subunits, allowing reassociation with G beta/gamma subunits to form inactive heterotrimers and terminate signaling. Alternative splice variants have been observed but are not fully characterized.
