CBX8는 Polycomb group (PcG) 다단백질 PRC1 유사 복합체의 구성 요소로, 발달 과정 전반에 걸쳐 Hox 유전자 등 여러 유전자의 전사 억제 상태를 유지하는 데 필수적인 복합체 계열에 속합니다. PRC1 복합체는 크로마틴 재구성과 히스톤 변형을 통해 작용하며, 히스톤 H2A의 Lys-119 단일 유비퀴틴화를 매개하여 크로마틴의 발현 가능성을 유전적으로 변화시킵니다.
