Target Information

TCP-1 (t complex polypeptide 1) is a subunit of the heterooligomeric complex CCT (chaperonin containing TCP-1) found in eukaryotic cytosol. The CCT complex comprises eight distinct subunits: TCP-1 alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, and theta, each encoded by separate genes.
Two zeta subunits have been described: TCP-1 zeta1 and TCP-1 zeta2. TCP-1 subunits play independent roles in folding actin and tubulin. TCP-1 was initially identified in mouse studies related to tail-less and embryonic lethal phenotypes. Homologous sequences are found in many species, and yeast TCP-1 encodes a molecular chaperone for actin and tubulin. In both mammalian and yeast cells, TCP-1 is crucial for proper folding of cytosolic proteins.
