Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the adenylate kinase family of enzymes localized to the mitochondrial matrix. Adenylate kinases regulate adenine and guanine nucleotide compositions by catalyzing reversible phosphate transfer among these nucleotides. Five isozymes have been identified in vertebrates, showing tissue-specific and developmentally regulated expression. A pseudogene is located on chromosome 17. Three transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified for this gene, located on chromosome 1.
