Target Information
Prostaglandins are produced by the metabolism of arachidonic acid. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is one of five physiologically significant prostanoids. Its wide range of effects on immune, endocrine, cardiovascular, renal, and reproductive systems—as well as smooth muscle—are mediated through EP receptors (EP1–EP4).
EP2 receptors are 358 amino acid G-protein coupled receptors that stimulate adenylyl cyclase via Gs coupling and do not undergo PGE2-induced internalization. They are mainly localized in lung, placental, and smooth muscle tissues, playing important roles in neural functions and inflammation.
