Target Information
NR4A1 (Nur77) is a member of the steroid-thyroid hormone-retinoid receptor superfamily. It is expressed in the brain, adrenal gland, thyroid, liver, testis, ovary, thymus, muscle, lung, and prostate. Expression is induced by various stress stimuli and growth factors.
The encoded protein functions as a nuclear transcription factor involved in apoptotic signaling in thymocytes and tumor cells, and also participates in hypothalamic-pituitary axis signaling. Translocation of NR4A1 from the nucleus to mitochondria induces apoptosis. Three transcript variants encoding two isoforms have been identified. Variant 3 (TRC beta) differs from variant 1, producing a shorter C-terminus isoform. RXR has been identified as a partner for NR4A1.
