DSIF는 RNGTT/CAP1A의 mRNA guanylyltransferase 활성을 자극하여 mRNA 캡핑을 양성 조절하며, NELF complex와 협력하여 프로모터 근처의 전사 일시정지를 강화합니다.
이 과정은 전사 연장 복합체의 조립을 촉진할 수 있습니다. 또한 DSIF는 TFIIS/S-II의 활성을 억제하여 전사 일시정지를 유도하며, HIV-1 Tat 단백질에 의한 전사 활성화에도 필수적입니다.
