Description:
The Ber-ACT8 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD103 (Integrin alpha E). CD103 forms a non-covalent complex with integrin beta7 and is primarily expressed on intraepithelial lymphocytes and a subset of peripheral lymphocytes. It is also found in hairy cell leukemia (HCL) and some chronic B cell leukemias. CD103 expression can be upregulated by mitogen stimulation of T cells. Epithelial cell antigen (E-cadherin) binds to CD103, mediating lymphocyte homing to the intestinal epithelium. Cross-blocking studies suggest B-Ly7 and Ber-ACT8 recognize different epitopes.

This antibody is reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested:
Pre-titrated and validated for flow cytometry using 2–3 day PHA-activated normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended use at 5 µL (0.5 µg) per test (final volume 100 µL). Cell numbers may range from 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information
CD103 (ITGAE, Integrin alpha E) is expressed on mucosa-associated T lymphocytes and activated TGF-β1 cells. It consists of a 150 kDa alpha chain and a 120 kDa beta chain, forming a heterodimeric integrin. CD103 is expressed by 0.5–2% of resting lymphocytes in peripheral blood and lymphoid organs, and occasionally in bone marrow cells. It forms the E-cadherin binding integrin with beta 7, known as human mucosal lymphocyte-1 antigen. CD103 plays roles in adhesion and intraepithelial lymphocyte activation. Dysfunction is associated with hairy cell leukemia and splenic marginal zone lymphoma.
