Target Information
PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The growth factor bound to a receptor monomer determines whether the receptor forms a homodimer or heterodimer with PDGFRA and PDGFRB subunits. Knockout mouse studies indicate PDGFRA is critical for kidney development, as heterozygous mice exhibit defective kidney phenotypes.
