Target Information
The TEK receptor tyrosine kinase (also known as TIE2) is expressed almost exclusively in endothelial cells. TEK signaling is critical for endothelial cell–smooth muscle cell communication during venous morphogenesis, and defects in TEK are associated with inherited venous malformations.
Angiopoietin-1 binds to this receptor to mediate signaling pathways involved in embryonic vascular development.
TIE2 expression is upregulated by thyroid-stimulating hormone and agents that increase intracellular cAMP.
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) expressing TIE2 are quiescent, antiapoptotic, and form a side population adhering to osteoblasts in the bone marrow niche.
