Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses, one utilizing NAD and the other NADP as electron acceptors.
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases are known: three NAD-dependent enzymes in the mitochondrial matrix and two NADP-dependent enzymes (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic).
Each NADP-dependent isozyme is a homodimer. The protein encoded by this gene is the NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase found in mitochondria, playing a role in intermediary metabolism and energy production. It may associate with the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
