Target Information
ATG14 (Autophagy related protein homolog 14) is encoded by the ATG14 gene located on chromosome 14 in humans. It is also known as ATG14L or BARKOR (Beclin 1-associated autophagy-related key regulator).
Autophagy is a conserved process that recycles misfolded proteins and degrades dysfunctional organelles. It is induced under nutrient stress and involves formation of autophagosomes, fusion with lysosomes, and formation of autophagolysosomes.
The Class III PI3-Kinase Vps34 and Beclin 1 form a complex that includes ATG14 (type 1) or UVRAG (type 2). ATG14 directs the type 1 complex to the preautophagosomal structure (PAS), essential for autophagosome formation.
