DAK 유전자는 dihydroxyacetone kinase 계열에 속하며, 일반적인 kinase와는 다른 단백질 구조를 가집니다. 이 유전자의 산물은 dihydroxyacetone을 인산화하며, FAD로부터 riboflavin 4',5'-phosphate (cyclin FMN) 형성을 촉매합니다. 여러 가지 alternative splicing 변이가 확인되었으며, 하나의 full-length 형태가 결정되었습니다.
