The Glucose Detection research-use-only kit is a colorimetric assay designed for the quantification and detection of glucose in serum, plasma, urine, buffers, and tissue culture media.

This complete, ready-to-use kit includes clear 96-well plate(s), glucose standard, assay buffer, and other components to perform the assay. A 96-well microplate reader capable of reading optical density at 560 nm is required.

Background

Glucose is the most common carbohydrate and a key energy source in biological systems. It is a monosaccharide, aldose, hexose, and reducing sugar, also known as dextrose due to its dextrorotatory property.
Energy in biological systems is mainly stored as ATP, generated through aerobic cellular respiration of glucose. Impaired glucose metabolism can disrupt cellular homeostasis and lead to oxidative damage or apoptosis.

Assay Principle

The Glucose Colorimetric Detection Kit quantitatively measures glucose in various samples. A beta-D-glucose standard is used to generate a standard curve. Samples are mixed with colorimetric substrate and horseradish peroxidase (HRP), and the reaction is initiated by adding glucose oxidase.
After incubation at room temperature for 30 minutes, glucose oxidase produces hydrogen peroxide, which reacts with the colorimetric substrate in the presence of HRP to form a pink-colored product. The absorbance is measured at 560 nm, and the color intensity increases linearly with glucose concentration.
