Target Information

This gene belongs to the DAZ gene family, which is required for germ cell development. It encodes an RNA-binding protein similar to Drosophila Boule rather than human DAZ or DAZL proteins.
Loss of this gene function results in azoospermia (absence of sperm in semen). Histological studies show the primary defect occurs at the meiotic G2/M transition.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene.
