Target Information
The DMTF1 gene encodes a transcription factor containing a cyclin D-binding domain, three central Myb-like repeats, and acidic transactivation domains at both termini. It is induced by oncogenic Ras signaling and acts as a tumor suppressor by activating the ARF-p53 pathway to arrest cell growth or induce apoptosis. DMTF1 also activates aminopeptidase N transcription and may play a role in hematopoietic cell differentiation. The gene is hemizygously deleted in about 40% of human non-small-cell lung cancer, making it a potential prognostic and gene-therapy target. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
