Target Information
Aquaporin 4 (AQP4), also known as mercurial-insensitive water channel, is localized to the sarcolemma of fast-twitch muscle fibers in skeletal muscle. Aquaporins (AQPs) are integral membrane water channel proteins that facilitate water transport across cell membranes. This function is conserved across animals, plants, and bacteria. Multiple isoforms (AQP0–AQP10) exist in mammals, and different AQPs can coexist in the same cell. While most AQPs are water-selective, AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and one AQP10 transcript also transport urea and glycerol.
