Target Information
This gene encodes a member of a family of candidate taste receptors that belong to the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily. They are specifically expressed by taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate epithelia. These intronless genes encode a 7-transmembrane receptor protein that functions as a bitter taste receptor. The TAS2R3 gene is clustered with three other taste receptor genes on chromosome 7 and is linked to loci influencing bitter perception.
The receptor is gustducin-coupled and implicated in the perception of bitter compounds in the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract. It signals through PLCB2 and the calcium-regulated cation channel TRPM5. TAS2R3 is expressed in subsets of taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate epithelium, exclusively in gustducin-positive cells, and also in the antrum, fundus, duodenum, and gastric endocrine cells. Several bitter taste receptors can be expressed in a single taste receptor cell.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
