Product Specific Information

• This antibody does not react with Chicken or Xenopus.
• For Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
• Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18, type I cytoskeletal 18) belongs to the type A (acidic) subfamily of low molecular weight keratins and exists in combination with cytokeratin 8.
It is expressed in tissues from the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, as well as endocrine, exocrine, and mesothelial cells.
Cytokeratin 18 is primarily found in non-squamous epithelia and is present in most adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas, but not in squamous cell carcinomas.
Hepatocellular carcinomas express only cytokeratins 8 and 18.
Mutations in the cytokeratin 18 gene have been linked to cryptogenic cirrhosis.
Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns aid in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are valuable for differential diagnosis of tumors using immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometric assays.
