Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, controlling cell growth and differentiation. MAP2K1 is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane-dependent depolarization, and calcium influx. Activation occurs via phosphorylation of serine residues 218 and 222 by Raf1. It is involved in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation. Mutations in MAP2K1 can lead to cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
