BCL-2/BCL-XL 관련 단백질로서 세포사멸 조절에 관여하며, Caspase 1 및 8의 인식 부위를 포함합니다. 또한 선택적 단백질을 골지체로 운반하는 역할을 하며, CFTR 발현 조절에도 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. BAP31의 기능 장애는 낭포성 섬유증의 염화 이온 채널 결함과 관련될 가능성이 있습니다.
