Target Information
Importin 8 is a 1037 amino acid nuclear protein with a RAN binding site. It belongs to the RAN-binding protein superfamily and shares an N-terminal sequence motif with importin-beta that accounts for RAN GTP binding. Importin 8 binds to the nuclear pore complex (NPC) and mediates nuclear import of ribosomal proteins with a classical nuclear localization signal. It functions with RANGTP and RANBP1 to inhibit GAP stimulation of RAN GTPase and assists in nuclear import of SRP19 along with transportin.
