Target Information
The KV gene family encodes over 30 genes forming subunits of K⁺ channels, differing in gating, permeation properties, and expression patterns. Functional KV channels assemble as tetramers with pore-forming alpha-subunits (KV1–KV4) and accessory beta subunits that modify gating properties.
Differences in trafficking, biosynthetic processing, and surface expression of major KV1 subunits (KV1.1, KV1.2, KV1.4) in rat and human brain suggest a high level of regulation for assembly and functional channel formation.
