Target Information
Integrin alpha 4 (also known as CD49d and ITGA4) is a member of the integrin alpha chain family. Integrins are heterodimeric membrane proteins composed of alpha and beta subunits. The alpha4 chain pairs with either beta1 or beta7 chains. Ligand-binding sites of integrin alpha4β1 and alpha4β7 are located on the alpha4 chain, binding to ligands such as MadCAM, VCAM, and fibronectin. MadCAM is the principal ligand for integrin alpha4β7. HIV-1 envelope proteins can mimic MadCAM by binding to and signaling through integrin alpha4β7, the gut mucosal homing receptor for peripheral T cells.
