Target Information
Integrins are heterodimers composed of alpha and beta subunits that form transmembrane glycoprotein receptors with diverse ligand-binding specificities. They mediate cell-matrix or cell-cell adhesion and transduce signals regulating gene expression and cell growth.
The integrin beta 4 subunit acts as a receptor for laminins and associates with the alpha 6 subunit, playing a key role in invasive carcinoma biology.
Mutations in this gene are linked to epidermolysis bullosa with pyloric atresia. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
