CYP26A1은 cytochrome P450 초과족에 속하는 효소로, 약물 대사 및 콜레스테롤, 스테로이드, 기타 지질 합성에 관여하는 다양한 반응을 촉매합니다. 이 효소는 retinoids(특히 all-trans-retinoic acid, RA)에 작용하며, 4- 및 18-hydroxylation 활성을 가집니다. 세포 내 retinoic acid 수준을 조절하여 배아 및 성체 조직의 유전자 발현 조절에 관여합니다.
