Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the cyclin family, which are key regulators of cell cycle transitions through activation of cyclin-dependent kinases. It also belongs to the F-box protein family, characterized by a ~40 amino acid F-box motif. F-box proteins form part of the SCF (SKP1–Cullin–F-box) ubiquitin ligase complex, which mediates phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
F-box proteins are divided into three classes:
- Fbws: containing WD-40 domains
- Fbls: containing leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs: containing other protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
The encoded protein belongs to the Fbxs class and was among the first identified with an F-box motif.
