ACTL7A 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 actin-related proteins (ARPs) 계열에 속하며, conventional actin과 높은 아미노산 서열 유사성을 가집니다.
Actin과 ARPs 모두 ATP 결합 홈(actin fold)을 가지며, 세포 내 소포 수송, 방추체 정렬, 핵 이동, 염색질 재구성 등 다양한 세포 과정에 관여합니다.
ACTL7A와 관련 유전자 ACTL7B는 intron이 없으며, 9q31 염색체상에서 약 4 kb 간격으로 head-to-head 방향으로 위치합니다.
이 유전자는 다양한 성인 조직에서 발현되지만, 정확한 기능은 아직 알려져 있지 않습니다.
연구 결과, 이 유전자는 dysautonomia의 발병과 직접적인 관련이 없는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
