Target Information
This gene belongs to the cytidine deaminase gene family and is part of a cluster of seven related genes or pseudogenes on chromosome 22, likely resulting from gene duplication. Members of this cluster encode proteins structurally and functionally related to the C-to-U RNA-editing enzyme APOBEC1. These proteins may act as RNA editing enzymes involved in growth or cell cycle regulation. A hybrid gene can result from a deletion (~29.5 kb) between APOBEC3B and APOBEC3A, combining the promoter and coding region of APOBEC3A with the 3' UTR of APOBEC3B. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
