Target Information
Huntingtin disease, a neurodegenerative disorder, is caused by the expansion of a polymorphic glutamine tract in huntingtin. The Huntingtin Interacting Protein 1 (HIP-1) is a proapoptotic, cargo-specific adaptor protein implicated in the pathogenesis of Huntingtin disease. It plays a role in clathrin coat recruitment to lipid membranes and may contribute to tumorigenesis by promoting the survival of precancerous and cancerous cells. HIP-1 expression is significantly associated with prostate and colon cancer metastasis, making it a potential prognostic marker for these cancers.
