Target Information
MEF2C is a transcription activator that binds specifically to the MEF2 element found in the regulatory regions of many muscle-specific genes. It controls cardiac morphogenesis, myogenesis, and vascular development. MEF2C plays a key role in hippocampal-dependent learning and memory by regulating synaptic transmission. It is crucial for normal neuronal development, cortical architecture, megakaryocyte and platelet formation, and B-cell development and survival. Isoforms lacking the repressor domain are more active than those containing it.
