Target Information
CES2 belongs to the carboxylesterase family, responsible for hydrolysis or transesterification of various xenobiotics (e.g., cocaine, heroin) and endogenous substrates with ester, thioester, or amide bonds.
It may also participate in fatty acyl and cholesterol ester metabolism and play a role in the blood-brain barrier system.
CES2 is a major intestinal enzyme involved in drug clearance in the intestine.
