Target Information
BMPR1A is a Type I member of the TGF-beta receptor superfamily of transmembrane serine/threonine kinases that phosphorylates intracellular SMADs in response to bone morphogenetic proteins. These receptors are closely related to activin receptors ACVR1 and ACVR2. Ligands of these receptors are members of the TGF-beta superfamily. TGF-betas and activins signal through heteromeric complexes of type I (50–55 kD) and type II (70–80 kD) serine/threonine kinase receptors. Type II receptors bind ligands independently, but require type I receptors for signaling; conversely, type I receptors require type II receptors for ligand binding.
