Target Information
This gene encodes a protein that interacts with the N-terminal region of BRCA1. It shares homology with conserved regions of BRCA1, including the N-terminal RING motif and C-terminal BRCT domain, which are involved in cell growth regulation. The protein also contains three tandem ankyrin repeats. The BARD1/BRCA1 interaction is disrupted by tumorigenic mutations in BRCA1, suggesting that stable complex formation may be essential for BRCA1 tumor suppression. This protein may be a target of oncogenic mutations in breast or ovarian cancer.
