Target Information
Fis1 is a 17 kDa integral membrane protein and a component of the mitochondrial fission machinery. It contains a leucine-zipper domain, coiled-coil region, tetratricopeptide repeat domain, and a C-terminal transmembrane domain.
Fis1 acts as a pro-apoptotic factor, regulating mitochondrial fission and apoptosis by interacting with DLP1 and Mdv1p, facilitating Dnm1p recruitment to the fission complex. It is also implicated in peroxisome division. Loss of Fis1 inhibits apoptosis and leads to mitochondrial elongation.
