Target Information

In response to adverse environmental changes, cells increase the expression of heat shock proteins.
The small heat shock proteins group includes diverse proteins ranging from ~15 to >30 kDa.
A relationship between elevated stress protein expression and neoplasia has been observed, particularly in estrogen-induced proteins in breast cancer cells.
Hsp27 shows rapid phosphorylation in response to mitogens, tumor promoters, and calcium ionophores.
The 24 kDa estrogen-induced protein correlates with steroid hormone receptor expression and is highly expressed in breast carcinoma.
Studies suggest that Hsp27 levels also correlate with endometrial adenocarcinomas.
Regulation of human Hsp27 by estrogens and heat shock resembles ecdysteroid and heat shock activation of drosophila Hsp20 genes.
