Target Information
Dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) converts dihydrofolate into tetrahydrofolate, which is required for the synthesis of purines, thymidylic acid, and certain amino acids. The functional DHFR gene is located on chromosome 5, while multiple intronless processed pseudogenes or DHFR-like genes are found on separate chromosomes. DHFR deficiency has been associated with megaloblastic anemia.
