Target Information
The membrane-associated protein encoded by ABCB4 is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes and are divided into seven distinct subfamilies: ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, and White.
This protein belongs to the MDR/TAP subfamily, which is involved in multidrug resistance and antigen presentation.
ABCB4 encodes a full transporter and member of the p-glycoprotein family, with phosphatidylcholine as its substrate. It may be involved in the transport of phospholipids from liver hepatocytes into bile. Alternative splicing results in several products of undetermined function.
