Target Information
The DDX56 gene encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family, characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif. These proteins are putative RNA helicases involved in various cellular processes that alter RNA secondary structure, including translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly.
Some family members are implicated in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division. The DDX56 protein exhibits ATPase activity in the presence of polynucleotides and associates with nucleoplasmic 65S preribosomal particles, suggesting a role in ribosome synthesis, particularly in the assembly of the large 60S ribosomal subunit.
