Target Information
COMP (Cartilage Oligomeric Matrix Protein) is a noncollagenous extracellular matrix protein composed of five identical glycoprotein subunits. Each subunit contains EGF-like and calcium-binding (thrombospondin-like) domains. Oligomerization occurs via a five-stranded coiled coil and disulfide bonds. Binding to other ECM proteins such as collagen depends on divalent cations. Mutations in COMP can cause pseudochondroplasia (PSACH) and multiple epiphyseal dysplasia (MED).
