Target Information
TMEM8A is involved in the lipid remodeling steps of GPI-anchor maturation, generating saturated fatty chains at the sn-2 position of GPI-anchor proteins (GPI-AP).
It exhibits phospholipase A2 activity and is required for shedding of the GPI-AP TDGF1, modulating Nodal signaling.
TMEM8A also indirectly supports RAC1 translocation by maintaining CAV1-enriched plasma membrane domains.
Unlike TMEM8C, it has no fusogenic activity.
