Background
Major structural component of the ciliary rootlet, a cytoskeletal-like structure in ciliated cells that originates from the basal body and extends toward the nucleus. Contributes to centrosome cohesion before mitosis. Phosphorylated by NEK2, which may regulate its association with centrosomes, and also phosphorylated upon DNA damage, likely by ATM or ATR. Belongs to the rootletin family. Forms homopolymers and interacts with KLC3, NEK2, and the N-terminus of CEP250.
