Background

  • Function: RNA-binding protein involved in regulation of alternative splicing and mRNA splice site selection. Acts as a negative regulator of cell growth and inhibits proliferation.
  • Role in VEGF: Participates in splice site selection of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
  • Mechanism: Enhances exon inclusion in CD44 pre-mRNA via binding to purine-rich exonic enhancer.
  • Regulation: RNA-binding activity down-regulated by tyrosine kinase PTK6.
  • Induction: Induced in proteinuric diseases; down-regulated in immortalized fibroblasts after proliferative crisis.
  • Post-translational modification (PTM): Phosphorylated on tyrosine residues; C-terminal region of isoform 1 is tyrosine-rich.
  • Similarity: Belongs to KHDRBS family; contains 1 KH domain.
