배경 정보
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family, which regulates various cellular processes such as cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. This receptor-type PTP contains an extracellular region, a single transmembrane segment, and two tandem intracytoplasmic catalytic domains. The extracellular region comprises three Ig-like and eight fibronectin type III-like domains. Studies in chicken and fly suggest that this PTP promotes neurite growth and regulates neuronal axon guidance. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported, and a related pseudogene is present on chromosome 5. (RefSeq, Jan 2010)
